RE: 5er brakes actuated when emerg cable tangled in hitch

Yep, had the same problem after jocking the trailer around in the dealer's lot. Drug the trailer 1/2 mile down the road before I figured out what was wrong.
My solution was to buy plastic stick-on hooks. I cleaned the side of the pin box and put on the hook. The type of hook I got had a closure in it so the wire can't come out. The hook keeps the wire away from the hitch so that it won't snag. Went most of the summer on one hook. When it falls off, I've already got the rest of the hooks that were in the package. Should last me about three years on the couple of bucks I spent on hooks.

RE: Wildwood and Woodside RV Parks near Ft Bragg CA

We stayed at Pomo RV park this summer. Well worth going there. One of the best parks we've stayed in. The other writer commenting on the scary parks is worth paying attention to. We checked out the other parked in the area and there were none to compare. Some of the state parks are pretty nice, but not full hook up. Cell phone coverage is spotty at Pomo; if that's important to you.

Thefts of Catalytic Converter and Spare Tires

We've seen a big jump in catalytic converter thefts and recently the thefts of spare tires from under Chevy Trucks. I'm getting a cable lock for my spare tire, so at least the guy needs a little more than the tire wrench to take it off.
The catalytic converter is a little more difficult. I also own two Toyotas which seem to be a favorite for this type of theft. There's discussions on welding the bolts and welding metal straps under the converter to keep them from taking them off. Also etching the parts.
I saw an ad for a "Catcuff", a $50 bunch of cables and clamps that tie the converter to the truck. Looks easy. Can't find any bad reviews; but am suspicious because I keep seeing the same reviews.
Three questions. Anybody else doing anything about this? also, anybody using the Catcuff? And if you are, what the plans when you have to replace your catalytic converter. It doesn't look like its meant to come off at all.

RE: Jayco Eagle question

Same problem with our 2006. We had several problems with leaking whatever they use to clamp the pipes together. Was evidently difficult for the techs to get to as the leak was behind the shower and the entertainment center. Same leaking problem with the shower. They didn't put sealant on the top, but did on the bottom. Finally got it stopped. Those crimped connectors are certainly worth the money.

Wolf Car Cover - Customer Service Impressive

I bought a cover for my PU in 2005. Early last year, the inside of the cover started to deterioate so that it left a dusting over the entire truck whenever I uncovered the truck. This got a little pesky. This year, it got really bad and the cover started to shred easily. I realized the cover had a four year warranty on it. I emailed some photos to the company, along with my original order information; and a week later, I've got a brand new cover. I was ready for a fight that never came. When this one goes, I'll buy another.

RE: Hwy 1 NB from Bodega Bay to Mendicino KOA to Ft Bragg

Thanks for the help. I was thinking of cancelling the KOA part to stay away from some of the stress. I don't need any more. But guess we'll go.

Hwy 1 NB from Bodega Bay to Mendicino KOA to Ft Bragg

We're staying a week in Bodega Bay. We had to stay a day somewhere so we made reservations at the Mendicino KOA up the coast on 1. Then we travel on to Ft Bragg for another week. Is the highway in that area safe for me to take my size rig, 30 ft fifth wheel, all the way up 1. Or should I cancel the KOA stay, go back to 101 and go up to Hwy 20 to Ft Bragg?

RE: I-80 from Reno to Sacremento

One of the worst freeways in the country. Don't know what they spend their federal highway funding on in California, but its not on I-80. You'll know when you hit CA. You hit a dip in the road and then the ruts in the right lane. Batten the hatches. Expect somethings going to shake off.
The grades are not tough. Plan your lane changes early. The traffic in the foothills and Sacramento is very heavy nearly all the time.

RE: Bubbles in walls

We found a similar problem with the outside of our RV. We'd be talking with the service manager about problems on prior models he said was solved. When I inspected our trailer, I found the same problems on ours. I had them fix one fairly severe area and note others before the trailer got out warranty. If its severe, you need to get it to the dealer so they can at least document it, even if you don't want it fixed.

RE: Good Trip, rough roads

Rough Roads?!?!? You should try CA I-80 between Reno and Sacramento. After pulling there four times last summer (family stuff), I pulled into a gas station near Stockton to see a guy pulling the insulation out from under the front of his fifth wheel. Check mine and found most of the screws in my truck bed. Don't know what CA is spending their share of federal road tax dollars in that area on, but its not on the roads. You'd think for someplace that wants tourist dollars, they wouldn't use a goat trail to get into the state. We'll take the heat instead and go south through Barstow and Vegas to go west next time.

RE: Kings Canyon vs. Sequoia NP's

BTW, If there's any gas stations in the park, they just put them in. Best to bring gas with you and fill up just before you get in the park.

RE: Campgrounds around Fresno, Ca

There are no safe RV parks in Fresno. Do not stay in the city. There's nothing that could even rate 1 star. Sorry for the bad news, but even Millerton is not a convenient drive. It will be 100+ around that time. Everybody here will be trying to get to the ocean or the mountains - or wishing they could.

RE: Kings Canyon vs. Sequoia NP's

There's plenty to do. Avoid staying at Lodgepole. All the people from southern CA stay there. It's always noisy and crowded in the summer. Lots of bears there. Hard to sleep with everybody banging pots all night.
We stay near General Grant, but there are several nice campgrounds. Stoney Creek, Sunset, Cedar Grove, Princess. Hume Lake is nice, but crowded. There's some trails around General Grant, but its a little more crowded in that area. They have some great ranger shows at General Grant. There's also Boyden Cave and Crystal Cave. Morro Rock and Buck Lookout. The McKinley Grove with its Congress trail. Big Stump trail.
You can spend a day down by Cedar Grove on the Kings Canyon side. Very impressive. Its always a little warmer there. Not a place to pull the trailer too, unless you're a hero. There's trails that leave at the bottom end. There's four or five ranger stations, all of which can help you plan day hikes in the different areas.

RE: Safe place to pull in late night near the I-5 in Huron, CA

There is a little place off I-5 in Kettleman City. I've driven by it many times, but never stayed there. There's plenty of places to get gas and food there. Diesel is cheaper at the Valero station there.

RE: Safe place to pull in late night near the I-5 in Huron, CA

There is nothing around Huron you want to see. Coalinga is a much better location. You might also look around the Harris Ranch area, which is a little further north. Huron is a basically a small migrant town. You are basically in the middle of nowhere at all these locations. RV park reviews lists a location Summerville Almond Tree in Coalinga.

RE: LADY BUG INVASION !!!

My mom and dad had them in their house in WI for years. My mom got so she wasn't healthy enough to vacuum them up all the time. Nobody wanted to walk around the house without shoes on because you knew you'd have to step on them. Dad finally had the pest control guy come in and spray several times to get the off spring. We think they had a nest in the attic. Good Luck. But I don't think they'll just go away.

RE: Where's the power converter on a 2006 Jayco 20rlts?

Nevermind. Found it attached to the back of all the power center/circuit breakers. No user servicable parts, "don't play with this or void your warranty". I won't touch.

Where's the power converter on a 2006 Jayco 20rlts?

My power converter is not working. I never needed it before. Now that I'm looking for it, it doesn't make any noise to help me. It just had some work done on it, so I want to make sure its still connected and any fuses are good. It would be easier if I could find it.

RE: Jayco's and slider hitch

I don't think I've had my combo right at 90 degrees, but it doesn't look like it'll ever hit. I have a sliding Reese 18k, but I've never used the slide except in practice. I save a lot of money getting a manual slider for the couple times I might need it.

RE: Jayco Eagle Rear Wall Coming Off

The whole rear cap was separating from the side walls. The way we noticed was about a 1/4" gap with the fender skirting at the bottom of both side walls. The caulking which hid the seam of the rear cap to the fender skirting at the bottom of the walls no longer enough to hid the seam. Of course, most of the caulking all round the trailer was of the cheapest sort and is being replaced with the rest of the moulding. The dealer at first thought it was cheap caulking until the more experienced people looked at it. They fixed it by unscrewing the cap, pushing it back on and rebolting it with longer and more screws.
